Chicago born Andrew Bird is known for his ability to create songs and lyrics on the spot, all by himself. In 1996, Bird graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor's degree in violin performance, releasing his solo album debut called Music of Hair the same year. Later, he would obtain his first commercial exposure by collaborating with the band Squirrel Nut Zippers.
In 1997, Bird started his own group Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire and released their third album in 2001. As the band gained critical praise, Bird was forced to perform solo at a gig in 2002 and immediately rose to fame.
