Cal Newport's motivational keynotes are inspiring and allow the listener to think outside of their comfort zone.
Newport has been acclaimed with giving unconventional advice to students and graduates alike. His main message on the advice of career counselling is to be useful so you can discover your passion. He promotes this theory in his lectures and his book, 'So Good They Can't Ignore You.' Newport encourages graduates to find jobs that they can learn from as oppose to finding jobs that are based on their passion. In so doing, they are allowing themselves to learn new tasks and valuable information, rather than suffering the option of being stuck at a job that -- while passionate about -- may not interest them.
Cal Newport is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Georgetown University. In 2004 he graduated from Dartmouth College and went on to earn his Ph.D from MIT in 2009.
