He earned a double major degree in psychology and politics from the University of Toronto, and his executive MBA at the Schulich School of Business at York University. He is an activist for children's rights, and has received dozens of awards for his work including The Nelson Mandela Human Rights Award, the Top 20 Under 20 Award and the Community of Christ International Peace Award.
