Matthew Nisbet

Associate Professor of Communications

Speaker Matthew Nisbet is an associate professor of communications at American University, Washington, DC. Nisbet has an A.B. from Dartmouth College, a M.S. from Cornell University and a PhD in communication from Cornell University. Nisbet's research focuses on communication and how it factors into policy-making and public affairs.
Nisbet has more than 70 published studies, and book chapters. He is a Google Science Communication Fellow, and a Shorenstein Fellow in Press.

Nisbet gave a speech on the way that social media platforms and blogs rely on traditional media sources, like journalists, newspapers and news broadcasts. He did studies on this subject that revealed big discussions or talked about news on blogs and platforms were linking back to traditional media sources.
