Miranda Wang is a student at the University of Pennsylvania who has given speeches at conferences about a scientific discovery made by herself and friend Jeanny Yao. Wang was formerly a student at the University of British Columbia and a member of National Research Council of Canada.
Wang (along with Yao) devoted her time to discovering a way to decompose harmful phthalates found in plastic. Together they did extensive research and discovered a bacteria that breaks phthalates down naturally. In her speeches, Wang discusses the dangers of being constantly exposed to phthalates, which include cancer and reproductive difficulties. Phthalates are absorbed through the skin and can cause serious problems both in humans and in the environment.
