Phyllis Rodriguez is best known for her speeches with her friend and fellow activist Aicha el-Wafi, on their shared tragedy, how they overcame their differences and how they eventually learned the power of forgiveness and respect for one another. Rodriguez was put under the limelight when her son Greg passed away during the September 11th World Trade Center attacks. She was even more devastated when she gathered knowledge that the American government would counter the attacks with a military response.
In 2002, the Organization of Human Rights arranged for Rodriguez and Aicha to meet. The result of this newfound friendship demonstrates the power and potential of forgiveness and reconciliation despite adversities.
