The Theo Jansen keynotes explore the idea of creating lifeless animals that can carry heavy loads and respond to wind and obstructions on their own.
Jansen attended Delft University of Technology and received a bachelor's degree in physics. Jansen would work on his own projects, including the UFO, Painting Machine and Flying Drill, and exhibits in galleries all over the world. On the side he taught at Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague. He has written for several magazines including 'de Volkskrant' national daily newspaper and 'Metropolis-M,' as well as authored a book 'Zogenaamd Ik.'
Currently, Jansen is working on his own projects while also speaking in conferences in the US at universities and TED.
By demonstrating a life-size model of such an animal, the Theo Jansen keynotes offer a unique glimpse into the fused future of engineering and nature.
