Brazil-born artist Vik Muniz is known for his ability in producing pieces of art made from whatever material he puts his hands on, whether it be cotton balls, wire, thread, chocolate and even sugar. Muniz rose to fame and critical acclaim because of his unique way of producing art that provokes thought. His interest with daily objects is incorporated in his captivating work and has found its way to the global stage of exhibitions.
Muniz was projected into the world's spotlight as he was featured in a documentary directed by Lucy Walker called Waste Land where Muniz works on the world's largest garbage dump. The documentary was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 83rd Academy Awards.
