Speaker Xu Liu studied at and received his PhD from Baylor College of Medicine. After receiving his PhD, Liu went to MIT as a postdoctoral associate to work in Dr. Susumu Tonegawa's lab. Liu's research is focused on memory and light. Liu has been published in Science magazine, and has been covered by The Boston Globe, Scientific American, The Daily Mail and The Guardian.
Liu began his research on memory by doing experiments with fruit flies. He eventually moved on to mice, but is not planning on doing a human experiment in the near future, as the topic of memory control is controversial. Liu has devoted his academic career thus far to exploring memory.
