The Andrew Solomon speeches are mostly comprised of issues concerning subject matters with regard to homosexuality, mental health and politics.

Solomon was a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine from 1993 to 2001, writing articles about health, politics and culture. He is an activist and philanthropist for LGBT rights, mental health, education and the arts. Solomon is the founder of the Solomon Research Fellowships in LGBT Studies at Yale University and is one of the board directors of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and Trans Youth Family Allies.

Solomon has garnered many awards such the National Book Award, National Book Critics Circle award, the Books for a Better Life Award and the Yale University’s Research Advocacy Award to name a few.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Yale University and his Master's in English at Jesus College, Cambridge.
