David Karp's keynotes are not so much lectures as they are inspirational and informative stories of success, communicating to the viewer the mindset he had when he launched the short form blogging website, Tumblr; that is to say relentlessely inventive and keenly perceptive.

Karp is a native of New York City, where he currently lives. His educational background is unorthodox. As a child he attended the The Calhoun School before attending Bronx Science as a teenager. By 15 though, he dropped out and began homeschooling instead. Still, by this time he was already interning for the animation producer Fred Seibert and soon began working as a software consultant for the online urban parenting forum UrbanBaby.

Tumblr was launched in 2007 and as is made explicit in David Karp's keynotes, the project was motivated by an earnest desire to create a short-form blogging platform rather than milk a cash cow. Still, Karp's labor of love has most certainly not been fruitless, as it is one of the most successful social media platforms out there.
