Geoff Canada is the President & CEO of the Harlem Children's Zone, which aims to increase the number of high school and college graduation rates among students living in Harlem, New York, and it is the primary focus of the Geoff Canada speeches. Canada is also the Chairman of the Children’s Defense Fund’s Board of Directors, and the Board of Directors of The After-School Corporation.

In 1974, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College in the fields of psychology and sociology, as well as a Master's Degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

The Harlem Children’s Zone was profiled in The New York Times in 2004, and Canada was named "One of America's Best Leaders," in the 'U.S. News and World Report' 2005 issue. He's been profiled and interviewed on popular television shows such as 60 Minutes and the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Winston has two published books titled, ‘Fist Stick Knife Gun: A Personal History of Violence in America,’ which was published in 1995. The second publication titled ‘Reaching Up For Manhood: Transforming the Lives of Boys in America,’ was published in 1998.

Some notable awards and honors that Winston has received include the ‘Doctor of Laws’ from Colombia University in 2010, and ‘The 1st Annual Heinz Award in the Human Condition.’ The passionate Geoff Canada speeches are eye openers on the importance of improving the American education system.
