Professor at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University

Thomas Cooley is a professor of the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University who has given speeches on social business. Cooley is also a Professor of Economics in the NYU Faculty of Arts and Science. He was also formerly the Dean of the Stern School from 2002 to January 2010.

Before teaching at the Stern School of Business, Cooley was a Professor at the
University of Rochester, University of Pennsylvania. Before teaching, Cooley was a systems engineer at IBM.

Cooley believes that social businesses are worthwhile and encourages social business start-ups among his students. He believes that large grants for social business start-ups wouldn't exist if students of business weren't so passionate about doing good. In speeches, he promotes the importance of social businesses.

Cooley is also an adviser on the Board of Managers of Standard & Poors, which he joined back in 2010.
