Salman Rushdie

Author and Writer

Sir Salman Rushdie's keynotes reflect his profound understanding of literature and the modern world. As a writer of 'Magical Realism' and historical fiction, his novels surround his own experiences through his travels from the Eastern side of the world to the Western side.

A graduate of the University of Cambridge, King's College in the field of history, Rushdie went on to work as a copywriter for Ogilvy & Mather, an advertising agency, before becoming a full-time author.

For his contributions to the world of literature for Britain, Queen Elizabeth II knighted him as a 'Knight Bachelor' in 2007; the Times ranked him thirteenth on a list of fifty greatest British writers since 1945 and he has been elected as a Foreign Honorary Member at the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Starting in 2007, Rushdie has been teaching as a distinguished Writer in Residence at Emory University.
